تمت دعوتي لتجربة شاورما شويخ أمس و كانت تجربة لذيذة. اخترت شاورما أم الرمان والتي تكون من دجاج و رمان و بطاطا و بقدونس و صلصة ثوم بالصمون *بدل الخبز اللبناني* الخلطة لذيذة و تستحق التجربة و أنا الآن في مهمة لتجربة كل قائمة الطعام لديهم! المطعم موجود بجمعية شويخ و رقم الهاتف 66366612

I was invited earlier to try Shawarma Shuwaikh in Shuwaikh Coop (next to the mosque) by my friend Mr. Faisal

I have seen pictures of the soft opening, and on their Instagram.. the place is smaller than I thought but designed really well!

I have decided to make all pictures look vintage-esque because that’s the vibe I got when I entered… bricks and wood used in designing the place are from recycled material, and so is the menu! Pictures hanged on the wall with warm vintage-y colors and light bulbs hanged with thick robes.. it gave the whole place a unique look! Event the way “Shawarma Shuwaikh” written in Arabic (شاورما شويخ‎) gives the place a feel of the 1970s!

iPad screens through the wall showing different scenes; one showing the process to prepare the meat/ingredients, one with credits to the people behind the concept/restaurant, one shows the work in the kitchen, another tells you a brief history of Shuwaikh area, and last one plays classic Kuwaiti TV shows!

I was there at around 7:10PM and shortly after I ran into my cousin and her husband! The place got packed quickly with customers… they are still under soft opening 😉 The process of taking orders and pick-up is a bit slow, but worth the wait

There is one counter/bar with two stools by the wall with condiments; napkins and three different sauces: red chili, tahini, and green chili 😉 I sat on one of the stools while I looked at the menu and Faisal was giving me suggestions and trying to explain the sandwiches further

As soon as I read Om Al Roman, a chicken shawerma with Lebanese bread *that I replaced with a bun*, chicken, pomegranate, potato, parsley (although not a big fan), and garlic sauce… I knew this sandwich was made for me! It is as if I was sitting with the chef and their team when they made it up!!

As I waited for my sandwich I ran into more friends – some were there to get a shawerma, others passed by to check the much-talked about new hip shawerma place

Guess who? 😛

I took a bite and I was like “Boy was I right or what? – this sandwich is made FOR ME!” I would maybe ask for extra pomegranate! The whole ingredients complimented one another really well, and the bun was fresh and a bit crispy from press toasting on the outside! Total delight. The garlic in the sauce did not over power the taste – which happens a lot with shawerma places
