It seems that Angelina Jolie underwent major preventative surgery, a tough decision many women face! Brave I must add. She said “My doctors estimated that I had an 87% risk of breast cancer. Once I knew that this was my reality, I decided to be proactive and to minimize the risk as much as I could.” She also adds (about her mother who died of ovarian cancer) “My children will never have the chance to know her and experience how loving and gracious she was… They have asked if the same could happen to me. I have always told them not to worry, but the truth is I carry a faulty gene.”

Last February, she went under major surgery, an 8-hour operation, which the breast tissue was removed before temporary fillers were put in place. Six weeks later, on March 26, Angelina took a humanitarian trip to the Congo without telling her traveling companion she went under major surgery. On April 4th, she attended the Women Summit in New York appearing relaxed. Next day, she took the kids out shopping. She managed to keep her secret from the public all this time, until recently. She said “On personal note.. I do not feel any less of a woman. I feel empowered that I made a strong choice that in no way diminishes my femininity.” – What did Brad Pitt say to all of this? “Having witnessed this decision firsthand, I find Angie’s choice, as well as many others like her, absolutely heroic… All I want is for her to have a long and healthy life, with myself and our children… This is a happy day for our family.” She chose to share her story now to inspire more women to get tested and know their options. Medically speaking, Angie’s chances of developing a breast cancer are now just under 5%
